The index took its present form on 15 August 2026. Earlier readings were made on a different scale and are left out of the files: joined to these they would draw a change that never happened. They are still on the archive, marked.

Under a chart or a table made from the files:
- Free to use, quote and chart, commercial or not.
- Credit WWIII.report, with a link where the medium has links.
- Give a number with its date: it changes every day.
- Do not alter the numbers, or present them as a forecast or a probability.
The WW3 risk index asks one question of every conflict WWIII.report tracks: if this one ignites, how much of the world comes with it? It reads how the conflicts are bound together — the states, alliances and nuclear powers they share — on a 0–100 scale, from LOW (separate problems) to EXTREME (the separate wars are effectively one).
A war index grades how far one conflict has gone, on one 0–100 scale: below 50 is escalation before war, 50 and above is verified armed conflict and how far it has gone.
A stage, not a probability: 47 is not a 47% chance of anything. How it is made →
